Equipment Maintenance Workshop

Learn how to take care of your restaurant’s equipment so it lasts a lifetime with our Kitchen Equipment Maintenance Workshop! Commercial equipment is one of the biggest investments restaurant owners will make when starting their business, and taking care of that equipment is a surefire way to make your investment worth your while. 

In this class, we will cover the following:

  • Preventative Measures & Regular Maintenance

  • Signs of Disrepair

  • Troubleshooting & Potential Pitfalls

  • Knowing When to Call a Professional

Matt Henson, the Director of Preventative Maintenance at Valley Commercial Service, will be teaching this class. Matt has nearly 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, working for big names like Jean-Robert, Boca, and Jeff Ruby’s before transitioning into equipment maintenance. He has six years of experience repairing HVAC systems and four years as a refrigeration technician.

Tickets are $20 per person. This class will be held at Findlay Kitchen - 1719 Elm St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.

We will break out into small groups and collaborate on real-world problem solving to bolster your conflict management skills. This class is perfect for early-stage food businesses looking to scale their operations or established food businesses who want to strengthen their hiring and management processes. 

Leading this class is Brooke Poling, Founder of Optimal Employee Relations, a solutions-oriented employment and management consulting firm. Prior to starting her business, Brooke was an employment law attorney who helped companies develop best practices and stepped in when difficult legal obstacles arose.

This info session is for anyone considering being a mobile food vendor at events or markets in Cincinnati. Hear from Findlay Market staff on the Mobile Popup Program available to Findlay Kitchen members and details about the Findlay Outdoor Market. The Cincinnati Health Department will be talking through mobile food licensing requirements and providing inspections for those who need them.

Intro to Knives

Sharpen your knife skills with a class taught by experienced industry professionals! This class will teach you how to safely and efficiently handle your knives while cooking as well as clean and care for them to maximize their lifespan. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with knives, making a series of different cuts, both classic and practical, and leave the class ready to level up your home cooking. This class is taught by Jordon Kuhn, Entrepreneurship Program Manager at the Corporation for Findlay Market, and Hannah Luken, owner of Artichoke.

Tickets are $70 each, or $120 for couples, and include one drink ticket from Jane’s and light refreshments from Dean’s Mediterranean Imports.

All vegetables prepped during the class will be donated to a local food bank.

This iPhone Photography Workshop for food businesses will cover the following:

  • Using what you've got: Mastering the camera on your iPhone

  • Composition and lighting: How to make your food stand out

  • Post-production: Editing your images using Camera and additional apps

  • Content strategy: What to post and what to avoid

This workshop encourages participants to bring a dish or object to photograph, an iPhone, and enough storage space to take lots of photos! After registration, you will receive instructions to download the free apps needed for the workshop. We’ll reach out with details to ensure you’re prepared and ready to make the most of the session!

Tickets are $15.

About Erin Matulis (Instructor): Erin Matulis has been with the Corporation for Findlay Market for six years and currently serves as the Director of Marketing. In this role, she oversees all marketing, data analytics, communications, branding, public relations, special events, programming, and design for Findlay Market and its programs. As the Market’s first full-time graphic designer in 2018, Erin played a key role in elevating Findlay Market’s brand, from building out Market websites to creating original event branding and improving wayfinding.

With over a decade of photography experience—starting in film and later transitioning to digital—Erin has developed a versatile approach, capturing everything from food and family to lifestyle and events. Minoring in photography in college and as a social media content creator for Findlay Market, she believes in empowering others to use the tools at their fingertips. Beyond her role at Findlay Market, Erin runs a photography business (@erinmatulisphotography), showcasing her passion for capturing life’s moments. Her expertise in photography, videography, and marketing has significantly enhanced Findlay Market's social media presence. In her current role, she leads a talented team, driving data-driven marketing strategies and maintaining a high standard of excellence in all external communications.
